Sludge enhancers are used in sewage treatment plants to enhance efficiency

In the field of sewage treatment, sludge treatment has always been one of the core links. As an innovative chemical agent, sludge enhancer is gradually becoming a key tool for sewage treatment plants to improve treatment efficiency and reduce operating costs.

I. The Mechanism of Action of Sludge Enhancers

Sludge enhancers mainly function by destroying the colloidal structure of sludge. The colloidal particles in sludge can encapsulate a large amount of water, making it difficult to dewater the sludge. The chemical components in the sludge enhancer can break down these colloidal particles, causing the originally encapsulated water to be released. At the same time, it can also reduce the viscosity of sludge, improve the fluidity of sludge, and make it easier to remove water from sludge in treatment equipment. In addition, sludge enhancers can also increase the solid content of sludge, promote the aggregation of sludge particles, and thus form flocs that are easier to separate.

Ii. Application Advantages of Sludge Enhancers in Sewage Treatment Plants

Improve dehydration efficiency

During the sludge dewatering process, sludge enhancers can significantly accelerate the settling speed of sludge and shorten the dewatering time. For instance, after the application of sludge enhancers in a certain urban sewage treatment plant, the sedimentation time of sludge was shortened from several hours to 1-2 hours. Meanwhile, the moisture content of the dehydrated mud cake is significantly reduced, from the original 80% - 85% to 60% - 65%. The solid content of the mud cake is notably increased, making it more compact and easier to transport and dispose of.

Improve the effluent water quality

Sludge enhancers can effectively remove suspended solids and organic matter from sludge, thereby reducing the impact of these pollutants on the effluent quality. After the application of sludge enhancer, the effluent turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and other indicators of the sewage treatment plant were significantly reduced, enabling the effluent quality to meet the national discharge standards and reducing the pollution to the receiving water body.

Reduce operating costs

Although the addition of sludge enhancers will increase the cost of chemicals to a certain extent, due to the improvement in sludge treatment efficiency, the operation time and energy consumption of sludge treatment equipment are reduced. At the same time, it reduces the environmental risks and disposal costs that may be caused by improper sludge disposal. Taking all factors into consideration, the overall operating cost has been effectively controlled.
