Sludge Dewatering Upgrade: Performance Comparison of Conventional Chemicals and Sludge Enhancers

In the industrial production process, sludge treatment is a crucial step in the environmental protection环节. The dewatering effect directly affects the subsequent disposal cost and the efficiency of resource utilization. Currently, most enterprises still use common dewatering agents (such as polyacrylamide type) for sludge conditioning, but there are problems such as low dewatering efficiency, high mud cake moisture content, and large dosage of the agents. In contrast, the new type of sludge enhancers have shown significant advantages in practical applications.

Take the mixed industrial sludge produced by a certain chemical plant as an example. This sludge has the characteristics of high organic content, high viscosity, and strong hydrophilicity.

Traditional dehydration processes are difficult to achieve the desired effect. When using common dehydration agents, a large dosage (usually 3‰–5‰ of the dry weight of the sludge) needs to be added. After plate and frame filtration, the moisture content of the sludge cake still reaches 82%–85%, and the dehydration cycle is long, with turbid filtrate. Further drying treatment is required subsequently, which increases the operating cost.

After switching to the sludge enhancer, the situation significantly improved. This enhancer, through a unique composite modification technology, can effectively break the sludge's colloidal structure, release bound water, and enhance the sludge's settling and compressibility. Under the same treatment conditions, only 1.5‰–2.5‰ of the sludge enhancer needs to be added, combined with a small amount of ordinary flocculant, to achieve efficient dewatering. After plate and frame filtration, the moisture content of the sludge cake drops below 75%, and in some batches, it even reaches around 70%. The dewatering efficiency increases by more than 30%. At the same time, the filtrate is clear, the suspended matter content is significantly reduced, and it is conducive to reuse or compliance discharge.

In addition, the sludge enhancer also has excellent adaptability. It has stable effects on various types of industrial sludge (such as those from dyeing, pharmaceuticals, and electroplating industries), and can reduce equipment blockage, extend the service life of the filter cloth, and decrease the maintenance frequency.

In conclusion, compared to ordinary dehydration agents, the sludge enhancer demonstrates outstanding performance in reducing the moisture content of the sludge cake, reducing the dosage of the agent, improving the dehydration efficiency and operational stability. It not only helps enterprises lower the disposal cost of sludge, but also better aligns with the green and low-carbon environmental protection trend. It is an ideal choice for deep dehydration of industrial sludge.
